This Masonic lodge is one of the oldest in the state of Tennessee having received its charter October 11, 1828. Its oldest annual return . . . is extant as is the 1848 return and some of those of the 1850s.When vital statistics were not kept officially by a governmental agency, the records of deaths in such private organizational returns are especially important. Charles A. Snodgrass in his THE HISTORY AND GROWTH OF FREEMASONRY IN TENNESSEE, 1789-1943 (1944), page 295, lists other Masonic lodges in Henderson County, the active as well as the "failed" ones. The Grand Lodge in Nashville, Tennessee has records of these local lodges and it was there that the present writer abstracted the death mentions in the annual returns for the Constantine Lodge.
