1. Nathaniel[1] Moore. Born, Jul 1787, in NC, Surry Co.?. Died, 1871, in Decatur Co., TN. Census: 1870, in Henderson Co., TN. Resided: after 1828, in Perryville, Perry Co., TN. Resided: 1828, in Bedford Co., TN. Occupation: Blacksmith.

   "In the year 1839 there were nine Moore brothers who came ashore in Philadelphia on a ship newly arrived from Ulster, in northern Ireland. . . . The Moore brothers next appear in Borden's Grant and Augusta County, VA. One of the brothers, David, settled in Borden's grant permanently and reared a family there. The other brothers stayed for different lengths of time and moved south as they pleased.

   "One of David Moore's sons, benjamin (b. 1766) moved to North carolina in what was later to become Surry County where he reared a family. One of his sons, Nathaniel, was born July 3, 1787." [Decatur County, Tennessee History and Families]

   "Nathaniel Moore and Margureth Phillips Moore came by wagon train from Surrey [sic] County North Carolina to Decatur County in 1828 and settled near Perryville. Their children were Alfred Lynch Moore, . . . Margaret Peggy Moore, Tennessee (Tennie) Moore and Mary Moore, all born in North Carolina and Bedford William Moore, born in Bedford County Tennessee in 1828. When their wagon train came through Bedford County they stopped a while and here Bedford was born on September 5, 1828. He was named for the county. . . . When the family arrived in Decatur County they entered a tract of land about one and a half miles wast of Perryville Landing, near Sardis Ridge Church and built a log cabin by a large spring. The Land Grant #8623 shows this was in 1828. Moore also entered another tract of land of 100 acres joining the former tract on December 10, 1850, Grant #11715.    Until 1845 most of the area which is now Decatur County was part of Perry County. Nathaniel Moore's name appears frequently in surviving Perry County court records.

   It is generally assumed that Nathaniel Moore is buried at Sardis Ridge Cemetery. However, in the 1870 he is living with his daughter Mary McGlaughlin in the Chesterfield area of Henderson County. He may be buried at Union Church.

2. Alfred Lynch[2] Moore (Nathaniel, 1). Born, 1 May 1816, in NC, Surry Co.?. Died, 17 Aug 1905, in Decatur Co., TN. Resided: 1828, in Bedford Co., TN. Resided: 1828, in Perryville, Perry Co., TN. Burial in Sardis Ridge C., Decatur Co., TN. Occupation: Carpenter. "Alfred Lynch Moore, eldest son of Nathaniel Moore, came to Tennessee at the age of 12 years. . . . After Alfred was married he entered a tract of land east of his father's place, the Land Grant was dated Mar. 10, 1847 and the Grant no. was 5123 and this Land Grant is still [1977] in posession of the Thomas Johnston Moore family. Alfred Moore was a carpenter by trade and was listed as such in the Old 1850 Census book. He built his family a home on this tract of land where they were reared, and later came into posession of the Thomas Johnston Moore family. Among other things Alfred built was the Old Colonial Howard Home just across the Alvin C. York bridge on the Tennessee River near Perryville on the left of the Linden Highway. The Howard family still [1977] keeps this house in good condition" (Ready, "Nathaniel Moore").

   John F, Kneaream "was trice married -- first to Miss Emma Moore, of Decatur county, who bore his one daughter, who died thirteen years ago as the wife of Lucian walker. His second wife was Miss Mary Wise and she survives him, but is in a low state of health. "He came to this country with the building of the Tennessee Midland railroad in 1887, and was a brick mason by trade. He also dud and cemented cisterns and did other work. So far as we know he had a good name. "He was a member of the Baptist church and when the funeral service was held in his home Rev. Fleetwood Ball officiated. The remains were interred in Union Cemetery." ["Lexington Progress," 5 February 1926] Children:

Moore died of a broken back from falling from a wagon. He was a life-long resident of the Sardis Ridge community. He was a member of sardis Ridge Baptist Church.     He married Flora McClure, daughter of Charles A. McClure and Sarah Garrett, 3 Jun 1900, in Decatur Co., TN. Born, 3 Apr 1879. Died, 8 Jan 1950, in Pope, Perry Co., TN. Burial in Campground Cem., Decatur Co., TN. Flora spent most of her married life in the Sardis Ridge community. She was a member of Sardis Ridge Baptist Church. She died of cancer. Children:
