During his life time, David researched the history of several Decatur and Henderson County families. His research provides important basic research on the history of families that now live or have lived in these two counties. Like all research, it is not perfect and is known to contain both errors and omissions. "During the war Jane Hays Frizzell and her three small children lived in a house with two other families whose men had gone to war. After the war she lived in a house on Arms Creek near Beacon, and there her children grew up.... "From a Dr. Brown, Jane Hays Frizzell acquired a mortgage on a farm at Bible Hill; and about 1879 or '80 she foreclosed and moved to a log house on this farm, which old-timers called the Bobby Box place. Later, when a new house was built, her son John who married in 1887 continued to live in the log house, and four of his children were born there." [A Frizzell Family Record]
She married Abraham Frizzell, son of James Sanders Frizzell and Martha Francis Jones, 17 Nov 1857, in Decatur Co., TN. Born, 29 Mar 1833, in Bedford Co., TN. Died, 16 Sep 1864, in Chaleston, Charleston Co., SC. Burial in Bible Hill Cem., Decatur Co., TN (marker only). "Abraham, the eldest son of James Sanders Frizzell, was born in Bedford County, Tennessee in 1833, probably in that part of Bedford County that became Coffee County in 1836. Census records show his family living in Bedford County in 1830 and in Coffee County in 1840. Sometime between 1843 and 1850 the family

moved to Henderson County, Tennessee where Abraham met the woman he married in 1858. "The Hays family lived in the Decatur County community of Beacon near the Henderson County line; and in this vicinity Abraham Frizzell and Jane Hays married and had a family consisting of twins, John James and Rebecca Frances, born in 1860 and another son George Washington Frizzell, born in 1862. "Abraham served in the Union Army, as did three of his brothers. Enlisting at Jackson, Tennessee in 1862, he served as a private in C Company of the Seventh Cavalry Regiment, Tennessee Volunteers; was captured in a battle at Union City, Tennessee in 1864; and died while a prisoner of war in Charleston, South Carolina. Although the cause of his death and his burial place are not known, there was a train wreck in Charleston which killed many Union soldiers who were being transferred to another prison and a returning soldier told the family that he had seen Abraham in Andersonville Prison in Georgia. He may be one of 4,000 unknown Union dead interred in the Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, South Carolina. Several men of his regiment are buried there. [A Frizzell Family Record] Children:

Rains' "education was interrupted by the breaking out of the late war. After that he began the study of medicine under Drs. J. H. Still and J. H. Leonard of Decaturville and completed a thorough and systematic course of instruction at the Nashville University in 1867. He began practicing at Sulphur Springs but in 1868 removed to Decaturville where he has since resided [c1889]. He has succeeded in building up a large and lucrative practice and is recognized as one on the leading practitioners of the county." [Goodspeed's History of Tennessee]

Occupation: Merchant. William Stout "is a retired merchant of Decaturville and is also one among the few of Scotland's sons who have settles in this county. . . . His father, David Stout, was a man of superior education and much influence. He was posessed of considerable means and gave to each of his three children excellent educational advantages. William, subject of this sketch, was brought up as a merchant, came to America when twenty-two years of age on a tour of pleasure and travel; but accidentally meeting a Mr. Pettigrew was induced to come west and locate at Perryville, where afterward he became the partner of Mr. Pettigrew. They continued a successful and prosperous business for several years. In 1878 he sold his goods at Perryville and moved to Decaturville, where he has since resided. . . . Mr. Stout is a Democrat and a man of culture and learning. He spends a considerable portion of his time in reading, and his library is filled with a judicious selection of choice books." Because of its proximity to the two churches in Bible Hill, the George Frizzell home was the one where the circuit riding ministers most often came for Sunday dinner -- much to the dismay of the chldren in the family who had to wait and eat around the second table. "The Frizzell house had four rooms, a tin roof, front porch with dog-trot, and a stone chimney. The family took pride in having the best well water in the vicinity and were always able to offer a dipper of cold water from a freshly drawn pail to visitors on a hot summer day. "George Frizzell was content to farm his land and be head of his household. He was a man of medium height and a fair complexion and was a quiet man by nature, becoming even more so in later years when he became hard-of-hearing. He lived to be eighty-five years old, enjoying the love and respect of wife, children, and grandchildren.
