MARGARET J. RUSHING JORDAN

from the photograph collection of Sarah Jones

Margaret J. Rushing Jordan

This is a picture of my ancestor Margaret J. Rushing Jordan born in Anson County NC est 1832 and died in 1910 in Alabama. Her parents, were Margaret J. (same name) and William Rushing. I have a copy of Margaret J. Rushing's will where she mentions her five daughters by married names but have no real proof of any information on William. A descendant of W. A. J. Gulledge (Jack) married one of the Rushing's daughters and she as well as others have stated that Margaret's husband was a William Rushing. Some say they lived in Montgomery Co. Ala. in the 1830's and he died before 1840. She is listed as head of the household in Coosa County in 1850 census with my Margaret J. (l6 yrs old). The picture I took was made from a tin photo and in it her hair appeared very dark but in the photograph it appears kind of red. The Gulledge information cites that the early NC census shows the William as the only family with at least that many daughters. Are we sort of guessing at this or are there some people with more information that could help me sort this out?
