Obituary

For when the one Great Scorer Comes
To write against your name.
He writes not that you lost or won
But how you played the game.

The death angel came and bore the bright spirit of Mrs. Cora Mattie Lowery from a land of labor of reward.

Cora Lowery passed July 11, 1981 at her home in Saltillo, Tenn. She was born in Hardin County on October 18, 1914 to the parentage of the late Samuel Allen and Mary Elizabeth Eanes. She united with St. Mary's A. M. E. Church at an early age and was always willing and ready to serve where ever and whenever she could. She was very devoted to the upbuilding and improvement of the church, serving as a steward, Missionary Society treasurer, assistant financial secretary, member of the usher board, Assistant Church Treasurer and Chairman of various church committies. She was faithful to her church obligations as long as life permitted.

She was a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Savannah Chapter 21 and served as Worthy Matron of District 6 for 5 years.

She was also President of the Saltillo Chapter of the NAACP.

She is survived by a very devoted family: Husband, Henry E. Lowery; 3 daughters, Mattie Hayes, Savannah, Tn. Bessie Pennington, Nashville, Tn. and Henri A. Lowery, Washington, D. C.; 2 sons-in-law: Edward Hayes, Savannah, Tn. and Wylie Pennington, Nashville, Tn; 4 sisters: Etta Harbor. Galiatin. Tn. Jessie Luton, Sammie Holt, and Ollie Godfrey, all of Morris Chapel, Tn.; 2 brothers: Charles and Luther Eanes, Washington, D.C.; 3 grandchildren: William Graham, Laianya and Elizabeth Hayes; 1 God Child: April Yarbro; 26 nieces and nephews and a host of other devoted and loving relatives and friends.

God saw her getting weary and did what he thought best.
He put his arms around her and took her home to rest.
