JOSEPH C. AND ELLA FINCHER, TWO POSTMASTERS OF LURAY

Randy Winbush

Joseph Clark Fincher (ca. 1837-1896)

Joseph Clark Fincher was born circa 1837 in North Carolina and moved to Henderson County between 1870 and 1872. He was appointed postmaster of Luray, Tennessee on March 11, 1891 and served until his death, apparently in the Summer of 1896.

Ella Mai Fincher

Ella Mai Fincher was appointed postmaster of Luray, Tennessee on August 29, 1896, possibly as an interim appointment following her father's death. George W. Priddy was appointed postmaster of Luray, Tennessee on November 10, 1896. The following document sent to postmaster Priddy concerns closing out the account of J. C. Fincher.

The photograph which follows shows Martha Elizabeth Stevens (called Elizabeth), first wife of Joseph C. Fincher. Elizabeth was born circa 1843. She and Joseph were married about 1860, and Elizabeth died some time after the birth of their youngest child Ella Mai Fincher in 1872.

Martha Elizabeth Stevens Fincher (ca. 1843-ca. 1872)

After the death of Elizabeth, Joseph C. Fincher married Martha Isabella Bradford Diffee. Joseph C. Fincher has numerous descendants in West Tennessee.

These portraits have been submitted by Randy Windbush, a great great grandson of Joseph C. Fincher. He is hoping someone might know where Joseph is buried or have other information about Joseph and Elizabeth. Please e-mail or write Randy Winbush, 11 Farmington Dr., Jackson, TN 38305.
