MILLS DARDEN

James R. Darden

Note: James R. Darden is a great grandson of Mills Darden.

Mills Darden, born in North Carolina in 1798. Left North Carolina and settled in Henderson County. He bought the Ranking Carver Farm near Life, 5 miles west of Lexington and lived there until his death. He was married twice. The first to Miss Cox. The second to Miss Cheek and each marriage brought four children each. His last wife weighed 99 lbs. When he died it took seventeen (17) Pall Bearers to carry the casket. It took 100 ft. of lumber to build his casket. There is a nice black top road to the grave where he and his two wives are buried and his slaves were buried on the farm.
